Last week I picked the first two t’maters from the garden. They were two little guys but I was still happy to see that I was able to nurture them from seed and that they are able to produce fruit. I intended on eating them both last week but I forgot.
I have been complaining about my cucumber plants all summer for their lack of production. Perhaps I should have checked UNDER the leaves. I did that today and I found one big dog and two little chubs sitting there on the soil. I was pumped. I cut the fatty from the vine as well as the larger of the two chubs. This particular plant is of the pickling variety and I think the fatty was on the vine a bit too long, but I’ll take it. I am going to try pickling for the first time this year. I’m excited about it for two reasons; 1 - I love pickles and 2 – I’m the only one in the house that likes pickles. It’s a win-win for me!
Last, but certainly not least, I picked the second strawberry of the year! A few weeks ago, I picked the first. It was a small but tasty treat. I shared it with my wife and daughter, but it was still fantastic to taste something I helped to grow. This ‘berry is also small and my wife has been extra stressed this week, so I saved it for her. She coaches our daughter’s cheerleading team and that is where she is right now. I hope she appreciates the pizza and single strawberry I will have waiting for her when she gets home. Go me!
